Thin film of lo-1,4-vinylene-2,3-dicarboxylicacidamide-s-methyl hydraz
inecarbodithioate) (II) (Scheme 1) of 5 mu m thickness was prepared. T
he dielectric properties of the prepared sample were studied as a func
tion of frequency and temperature, and the results were analyzed by th
e Cole-Cole method. The optical permittivity and the de-conductivity h
ave been deduced, and the activation energy has been calculated and fo
und to be 0.023 eV. Also, a detailed study of optical absorption is pr
esented. The optical absorption spectra were measured in the wavelengt
h range from 200-600 nm. The calculated absorption coefficient, absorp
tion index, and determined values of energy gaps (E-opt(d), E-opt(i) a
nd Delta E) are presented. The results indicate that both mechanisms o
f direct and indirect transitions exist. (C) 1997 John Wiley & Sons, I
