Mobilities of positive charge carriers in polyaniline (PANI) films are dete
rmined by electrochemical means as a function of oxidation level of the pol
ymer. Measurements are made in both acid and acetonitrile containing perchl
orate anions as a common dopant. Mobilities vary with oxidation level in a
fairly complicated manner, but the changes are quite similar irrespective o
f the difference in solvent. The mobility in the low oxidation regime is as
high as 10(-3) cm(2) V-1 s(-1). It decreases once with the increase of oxi
dation level, starts to rise drastically with a small hump, and exhibits a
peak at 36% oxidation level. (C) 2001 Published by Elsevier Science BN.
