The "mutual analysis" of Ferenczi in the light of modern psychoanalysis

In considering the clinical diary of Ferenczi mutual analysis is described as a tragic error, based, however, on promising ideas. These ideas have bee n acknowledged by modem psychoanalysis, which views the therapeutic process as intersubjective. In the present discussion about the participation of t he patient in countertransference the ideas of Ferenczi are taken up again, without levelling the asymmetry of the therapeutic relationship.
