Abstract
This paper presents a single IC designed for the ATSC-VSB terrestrial recei ver and the OpenCable (TM) digital set-top terminal. The IC integrates a VS B/QAM demodulator for in-band broadcasting with a QPSK modem for bidirectio nal out-of-band cable signaling. It features all-digital synchronization sc heme and robust channel equalization technique applied to the common VSB/QA M demodulation. Performance evaluation of the IC has shown that it can hand le effectively the severe fading effect encountered in terrestrial broadcas ting and the phase noise of cable transmission channels, It is designed wit h 0.18 mum CMOS technology.
