Abstract
The localized nonlinear approximation provides a very effective method with in the integral equation framework of electromagnetic scattering theory. Ex isting results in this direction are confined to the spherical geometry alo ne. In this work, we extend the known results for the sphere to the case of ellipsoidal geometry which can approximate genuine three-dimensional scatt ering obstacles. Reduction to prolate and oblate spheroids, where rotationa l symmetry is present, is also discussed. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. Al l rights reserved.
