Infantile lobar emphysema and tracheal bronchus in a patient with congenital heart disease

A 7-month-old girl was admitted with severe respiratory distress. Chest roe ntgenogram showed hyperinflation of the right middle lobe and mediastinal s hift. Bronchogram showed tracheal lobe displaced superiorly by the hyper-in flated right middle lobe. Echocardiography showed left-to-right shunt at th e ventricular level. The patient responded well after surgical correction o f cardiac defect. Four years after the operation, computed tomography exami nations showed no evidence of emphysema. Copyright (C) 2001 by W.B.
