Abstract
This article is an overview of the jumpsum method for testing, in a nondest ructive manner, the mechanical properties of ferromagnetic materials. The j umpsum method is a magnetic based method, which expresses and analyzes the barkhausen spectrum in terms of its profile rather than assigning the spect rum a mean or root mean square value. The jumpsum methodology allows unambi guous predictions of the mechanical properties of ferromagnetic materials o ver a wide range, including its ability to detect very small strains that a re well below the 0.2 percent offset strain. Micromagnetics of the barkhaus en spectrum and hysteresis loops are also discussed.
