Abstract
Our hypothesis is that sarcoplasmic and endoplasmic reticulum Ca2+ stores m ay be functionally distinct compartments in cardiomyocytes. Sarcoplasmic re ticulum Ca2+ store is responsible for control of excitation-contraction cou pling whereas endoplasmic reticulum compartment may provide Ca2+ for housek eeping and transcriptional functions.
