Abstract
We describe recent progress on large-scale integrated silica-based thermo-o ptic switches including N x N (N-16), 1 x N (N-32) and N-arrayed 2 x 2 (N-1 6) switches, which all employ planar lightwave circuit technology. We also describe a switch unit with a new structure and low power consumption, and report the results of reliability tests.
