Abstract
A Monte Carlo simulation of spin-polarized electron scattering in a target has been developed and backscattering phenomena from gold thin films are st udied with the simulation. The Mott cross-section is used for elastic scatt ering for spin-polarized electrons and the spin transfer of an electron is considered in the simulation. The model is evaluated by comparing the calcu lated results with experimental data. The polar angle distribution of backs cattered electrons is Studied with the simulation. Its take-off angle depen dence is discussed for 20 and 100 keV incident beams. The effects of obliqu e incidence are also discussed on the polar angle distribution. (C) 2001 El sevier Science B.V.
