Samarium(III) monoalkoxides bearing two, one, or no cyclopentadienyl type s
pectator ligands are easily synthesized by monoelectronic oxidation with te
rt-butylperoxide of the corresponding samarium(II) precursors. These monoal
koxides are single-site initiators for ring-opening polymerization.
