Polarization phenomena in NN <-> D pi reactions

On the basis of a relativistic approach, N N <----> D pi reactions are anal yzed in detail. The coherent sum of one-nucleon-exchange and pion-rescatter ing diagrams is calculated. It is shown that polarization observables are h ighly sensitive to off-mass-shell effects within the deuteron and that some of these observables can change sign upon taking these effects into accoun t. The effect of the deuteron P wave is also investigated. The results obta ined by calculating a full set of observables arc: compared with experiment al data on the reaction pp --> D pi (+).
