Within the diffraction theory of multiple scattering, the differential cros
s sections for elastic anti inelastic pion scattering on a Li-7 nucleus are
calculated for the case where the final nucleus is either in the ground or
iri the first excited state. The nuclear wave function is set to that in t
he at cluster model. The sensitivity of the calculated observables to varia
tions in the type of the wave functions for the alpha-particle and the trit
on cluster and for their relative motion is investigated. Various multiplic
ities of scattering and rescattering on the clusters constituting the Li-7
nucleus are taken into account, and their contributions to the cross sectio
n are revealed. The results of the calculations are compared with experimen
tal data at E-pi = 143, 164, and 194 MeV. (C) 2001 MAIK "Nauka/Interperiodi
