Al. Volynskii et al., Effect of the physical state of amorphous poly(ethylene terephthalate) on the mechanism of fracture of a thin metallic coating, POLYM SCI A, 43(9), 2001, pp. 921-927
Using the method of electron microscopy, the surface structuring upon the d
eformation of PET films with a thin platinum coating was studied. When the
fragmentation of the coating takes place upon the inelastic deformation of
a polymer support, in particular, upon deformation via classical crazing, t
he related mechanism of this phenomenon was advanced A relationship describ
ing the width of the bands of the fractured coating upon the deformation of
the polymer support was derived. The ability of a craze fibrillar material
to transfer shear stresses between the opposite craze walls was estimated.
