The LiBi(Edta) . 4H(2)O complex was synthesized for the first time, and its
crystal structure was determined. The structure consists of Li(H2O)(2)(+)
aqua cations, [Bi(Edta)](-) complex anions, and crystal water molecules. Th
e coordination number of the Bi atom in the complex is equal to 7. The Li(H
2O)(2)(+) cations and neighboring [Bi(Edta)](-) complex anions are united i
nto zigzag polymeric chains through the carbonyl oxygen atoms (O(2) and O(8
)'). The polymeric chains form infinite layers, with crystal water molecule
s between them, through bridging bonds with the O(6)' carbonyl oxygen atoms
of neighboring chains.
