The effect of the structural parameters of Neonol AF(9)-4 reverse micelles
(such as size, shape, charge, and degree of hydration of the surface layer)
on the localization of PtCl62- ions in them was studies. The solvatochromi
c: method and photon -correlation spectroscopy showed that the location of
PtCl62- in the surface layer of the micelle is due to the electrostatic int
eraction between the complex anion and the protonated ethoxy of the surfact
ant molecule. In AOT micelles, which are negatively charged, PtCl62- is loc
ated in the aqueous core of the micelle. As the concentration of Na2SO4 in
the feeding phase increases or as the micellar solution is diluted with chl
oroform, the surfactant and PtCl62- are partly dehydrated and the complex a
nion penetrates into the surface layer of the micelle more deeply.
