Abstract
A comparative study of classical and ultrasound-assisted extraction and pur ification of cellulose from kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus L.) and eucalyptus ( Eucalyptus rodustrus Sin.), has been conducted. The isolated cellulose samp les were studied by diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectros copy and C-13 nuclear magnetic resonance (C-13-NMR) spectroscopy and the cr ystallinity was also determined. The use of ultrasound decreased the total time of treatment, in addition the purity of the obtained cellulose was ver y high. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
