A mononuclear copper(II) coordination complex, [Cu(Hpydc)(2)]. 2H(2)O(pydc
= 2,4-pyridinedicarboxylate, C7H4NO4), has been prepared from the hydrother
mal reaction of CuO and H(2)pydc in H2O. The complex consists of discrete [
Cu(Hpydc)(2)] and two uncoordinated water molecules, the copper(II) display
ing a typical planar four-coordinate geometry. All Cu-O and Cu-N distances
range from 1.945 (2) to 1.975 (2) Angstrom. The discrete structure is furth
er extended into a three-dimensional structure by weak hydrogen bonds.
