Abstract
We successfully stabilized severe hemorrhagic shock following traumatic liv er injury by percutaneous transcarotid supraceliac aortic occlusion with a 5 Fr balloon catheter. Then we were able to perform transfemoral. embolizat ion therapy of the hepatic arterial bleeding source. Transient aortic occlu sion using a balloon catheter appears to be a useful adjunct in select case s where stabilization of the patient is necessary to allow successful selec tive embolization of the bleeding source.
