The excitation functions for elastic a-particle scattering by C-12, O-
16, O-18, and Ne-20 at (180)degrees in the c.m.s. are determined in wi
de energy ranges by using the new method of elastic resonance scatteri
ng on a thick target in inverse kinematics. In favorable cases, the me
thod makes it possible to reduce considerably the time required for ob
taining excitation curves. General regularities observed in these data
are discussed in terms of the a-cluster structure.
