Abstract
T-3 receptors are ligand-dependent transcriptional activators that can stim ulate gene expression resulting in growth and development. In this study T- 3 binding sites on isolated liver nuclei are demonstrated in the teleost An abas testudineus. The effect of hypothyroidism and feeding of polyunsaturat ed fatty acids (PUFA) on T-3 receptor number and binding affinity was also studied. Hypothyroidism caused an increase in T-3 receptor number and a dec rease in receptor affinity. PUFA feeding also increased the T-3 receptor nu mber without any significant change in its receptor affinity.
