In patients with angina-like noncardiac chest pain and dysphagia occur
ring in the absence of structural esophageal lesions, disordered esoph
ageal function may be the cause of the symptoms. Specialized esophagea
l function tests are often required to detect these. This paper summar
izes the recently reported new findings on diagnosis, pathophysiology,
and treatment of noncardiac chest pain and nonobstructive dysphagia.
