Housing frail elders in a managed care environment

This paper addresses the problem of bringing together the domicile needs of older persons as they move down the life course and managed health care pl ans that attempt to finance and deliver the appropriate amount and type of care required. It begins by focusing on health care reform in general and t hen moves to the special needs of the older population in particular. Follo wing a review of several innovative models designed to manage the comprehen sive care of this group, architects will be encouraged to recognize and pla n for elders who will increasingly receive health care in their homes and t hrough community-based services.
