Abstract
After Laplace transforming the reduced radial Helmholtz equation for a weak ly guiding optical fiber, we derive an eigenvalue condition for its propaga tion constant. It is expressed in terms of the ratio of two Laplace-transfo rmation integrals. We show the usefulness of this new condition in connecti on with the numerical solution of the scalar Helmholtz equation.
