Abstract
The magnetic properties of Co-Cr-Pt thin films for perpendicular magnetic r ecording media were studied in terms of the film composition. A very high p erpendicular coercivity (Hc(perpendicular to)) greater than 5000 Oe was obt ained at 13-18 at% Cr content and 12-22 at% Pt content. Perpendicular squar eness (SQ(perpendicular to)) and the maximum nucleation field (HN) were equ al to unity and -2500 Oe, respectively. Co-Cr-Pt double layered medium has also showed SQ(perpendicular to) of unity and large negative HN. (C) 2001 E lsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
