Abstract
We have introduced intermediate layers of CoCr/Cu and CoCrMo/Cu between a C oCrPtB recording layer and a soft-magnetic CoTaZr underlayer. The combinati on of the FCC-Cu first-intermediate layer and the HCP-CoCrMo second-interme diate layer was found to enhance the c-axis vertical orientation of the CoC rPtB recording layer. In media with intermediate layers of CoCrMo/Cu, the t hickness of the intermediate layers can be reduced without sacrificing good magnetic properties, and this leads to high resolutions.
