Abstract
Integration of heads and media for perpendicular recording into disk drives will require new developments in several areas. This paper discusses the m ethods we use to characterize error rate and servo performance of perpendic ular recording components, and highlights the impact of skew angle and exte rnal field on recording performance. We also report our first efforts to in corporate perpendicular components into disk drives. (C) 2001 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.
