Abstract
Recent research results on CoCr-alloy perpendicular magnetic recording medi
a are described in this paper. Important media issues are briefly discussed
in terms of experimental results. These issues include magnetic property i
mprovements in the recording layer, noise reduction by controlling the magn
etic interaction between the recording and soft-magnetic layers, reduction
of spike-like noise, the effect of the soft magnetic backlayer material on
the medium surface flatness, and thermal stability. (C) 2001 Elsevier Scien
