A new atomization system, previously proposed for standardless analysi
s, is compared with a commercial system in the determination of Pb and
Cd in fruit juice with Pd as matrix modifier. It is concluded that, i
n addition to an increase in sensitivity, the new atomization system h
as a response independent of the matrix. Therefore, no calibration is
necessary except for a knowledge of the spectroscopic constant of the
line used. Naturally the atomization must be such that all the atoms i
njected are simultaneously present in the atomizer. In the commercial
system on the other hand, the calibration curve is dependent on the ty
pe and concentration of the matrix modifier.
