Abstract
The combination of narrow-bandpass optical filtering and self-phase modulat ion in a short fiber segment is here exploited to design a clock-independen t all-optical regenerator of dispersion-managed solitons suitable for long- haul connections. The analytical approach and the numerical confirmations i dentify the optimal parameters of the regenerator that extend the transmiss ion length of a single channel at 40 Gbit/s up to several thousand of kilom eters.
