This paper examines X-ray diffraction, DC electrical resistivity, DC and AC
magnetic susceptibilities, specific heat and the Ce L-III-edge X-ray absor
ption spectrum of the cerium-based ternary compound, CePdSi2. Electrical re
sistivity, p(T), indicates the presence of Kondo and crystal-field effects.
The results of magnetic susceptibility measurements for CePdSi2 exhibit an
tiferromagnetism at 2.7 and 6.8 K. The specific heat measurement also shows
these two corresponding peaks in C(T), Besides, we found spin-glass behavi
ors in the magnetic susceptibility measurements. The time dependence of mag
netization observed and magnetic entropy calculations also agree with the p
resence of spinglass phase. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reser
