Neutron diffraction data collected on polycrystalline HoNiO3 have been used
to investigate the magnetic behavior of the Ni and Ho sublattices in the m
onoclinic insulating phase of this oxide. Different propagation vectors, k=
(1/2,0,1/2) and k=0, are found for the Ni and Ho sublattices, respectively.
Possible collinear and noncollinear magnetic ordering of the Ni moments ar
e discussed, supporting the idea that even in the insulating phase, carrier
s keep a certain degree of delocalization as a consequence of the strong p-
d hybridization.
