A method of forming non-Gaussian light beams with a uniform spatial intensi
ty distribution is studied. It uses a generalised confocal laser cavity, wi
th one of the mirrors made in the form of a mask with discretely arranged p
hase-shifting nonuniformities. The theoretical and experimental results of
the study confirm the formation of such beams at the output of a CO2 laser
with a nonuniform phase-stepped mirror.
