Abstract
Two allopatric populations of Macrotermes bellicosus, originating from Chad and Ivory Coast, have been compared. The electrophoretic study of 22 loci shows that 19 of them are monomorphic. The heterozygosity rate stands at 0. 035 which is lower than the average found for insects. Polymorphic loci, i. e. esterases and amylase, reveal a different polymorphism rate between the populations under study, i.e 14% in Ivory Coast and 4.5% in Chad. However, the genetic distance between the two populations is weak (0.058).
