Abstract
The synthesis of 1,3-oxathiolanes from carbonyl compounds has been performe d in good yields using Amberlyst (R) 15 as a convenient, reusable, heteroge neous catalyst. The procedure can be applied for the chemoselective protect ion of aldeydes in the presence of a ketone function. In addition, Amberlys t (R) 15 can be recycled without loss of activity and can be even employed in the regeneration of carbonyl group.
