Abstract
The chromic acid oxidation of some organic acids has been studied in a wate r-in-oil (w/o) microemulsion system composed of cetyltrimethylammonium brom ide (CTAB)-n-heptane-water and 1-pentanol at 30 +/- 0.1 degreesC. Compared to aqueous/acidic environments, the microemulsion has shown an accelerating effect, with rates being inversely proportional to the water/CTAB mole rat io. More importantly, the w/o microemulsion made it possible to perform rea ctions at room temperature that were not possible in other environments (pu re aqueous or micellar solutions) under similar reaction conditions.
