The acoustic properties of one kind of tofu (soft, firm and extra-firm type
s) commercially available in grocery markets were measured. It was found th
at density, speed of sound and attenuation coefficient of tofu were close t
o those of some soft tissues. It is suggested that tofu may serve as a tiss
ue-mimicking material for some biomedical ultrasound (US) through transmiss
ion applications in vitro.
