Risk factors for new coronary events in either older men or women include a
ge,(1,2) prior coronary artery disease (CAD),(1,2) cigarette smoking,(2-4)
systemic hypertension,(1,2,5) diabetes mellitus,(1,2) Serum total cholester
ol,(1-3,6-8) serum high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol (inverse asso
ciation),(2,6,8,9) serum triglycerides(2,6) and obesity.(1) There are limit
ed data about risk factors for CAD in US Hispanics, especially in Hispanics
