Abstract
Risk factors for new coronary events in either older men or women include a ge,(1,2) prior coronary artery disease (CAD),(1,2) cigarette smoking,(2-4) systemic hypertension,(1,2,5) diabetes mellitus,(1,2) Serum total cholester ol,(1-3,6-8) serum high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol (inverse asso ciation),(2,6,8,9) serum triglycerides(2,6) and obesity.(1) There are limit ed data about risk factors for CAD in US Hispanics, especially in Hispanics who are not Mexican-Americans. We are presenting data from a prospective s tudy on risk factors for the incidence of new coronary events in 503 older Hispanic men and women in a long-term health care facility in New York City .
