COMPOSITES PART A-APPLIED SCIENCE AND MANUFACTURING
Shear properties of compression-molded discontinuous AS4 carbon fiber reinf
orced poly(ether ether ketone) composites are evaluated with Iosipescu test
s. It is found that both shear modulus and shear strength strongly depend o
n the molding conditions. A comparison between shear behavior of the compos
ites and composites morphology reveals that fusion of the composite pellets
and fiber/matrix interfacial interaction on molecular scale are the two do
minant factors which determine the processing dependent shear properties of
the materials studied. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
