H. Imai et al., LOW TEMPERATURE SPECIFIC-HEAT OF RMN2 COMPOUNDS WITH THE HEXAGONAL C-14 STRUCTURE (R=Y, YB AND TH), Journal of the Physical Society of Japan, 66(7), 1997, pp. 2175-2177
The specific heat of C14 YMn2; YbMn2 and ThMn2 was measured in the tem
perature range of 1.4 K to 10 K. The huge values of specific heat were
observed for all compounds. The origin of the huge values of specific
heat are considered to be derived from two mechanisms. For C14 YMn2 a
nd ThMn2, those are ascribed to the excitations of large spin fluctuat
ions of Mn moments. On the other hand, the extraordinary large value o
f YbMn2 is due to the paramagnetic Yb moment.
