In this paper we report the elastooptic constants pij of strontium lan
thanum aluminate, SrLaAlO4 and strontium lanthanum gallate SrLaGaO4 si
ngle crystals, which were determined at room temperature using Brillou
in scattering method. Tn order to investigate the elastooptic constant
s of SrLaAlO4 and SrLaGaO4 single crystals, a substitution method prop
osed by Cummins and Schoen, and developed by Nelson and Lax was used.
The obtained results are also discussed in terms of the nature defects
which might arise in these crystals during growth process.
