A new "indirect" laser-driven ultrashort hard-X-ray source based on the com
bination of a high-repetition rate femtosecond laser system with a conventi
onal X-ray tube is demonstrated. This hard-X-ray source promises an outstan
ding performance in terms of average X-ray power, simplicity and handling a
s compared to "direct" X-ray sources based on high-power laser-produced pla
smas.
