A new unconventional bleaching system with non-classical stabilisers of the
polymer type is presented, The role of polymer stabilisers is to reduce th
e speed of peroxide decomposition and utilisation of the active bleaching a
gent in the bleaching solution. The whiteness grade of fabrics (100% cotton
) was measured according to the Berger criterion by a spectrophotometer usi
ng appropriate computer software. The degree of whiteness was high, above 8
1% in all cases. The mechanical characteristics were obtained by a dynamome
ter, and the breaking strength was slightly smaller than the breaking stren
gth obtained for the raw sample. To study chemical changes of the cotton fi
bres submitted to intensive bleaching, infrared spectroscopy (Fourier Trans
form Spectroscopy - FTIR) was used. The structural and morphological featur
es of the cotton fibres after different bleaching regimes were studied by s
canning electron microscopy (SEM).
