A series of semiladder polyimidazopyrrolones having amide, ester and ether
linkages in the main chain have been synthesized using low-temperature poly
condensation in dimethylacetamide (DMA). Solutions of prepolymers in the fo
rm of proper polyamideamino acid in DMA were cast onto a glass plate, heate
d in vacuo at 200 degreesC for 8 h and then at 280 degreesC for 2 h to caus
e evaporation of the solvent and thermal cyclization. Free-standing foils w
ere characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and their mech
anical, thermomechanical and optical properties were investigated.
