Positively n-Engel groups

A sequence of semigroup laws is defined that seems to play a role in arbitr ary semigroups similar to that played by Engel laws in groups. In support o f this hypothesis, we verify that a residually finite group satisfies one o f these semigroup laws precisely when it satisfies one of the usual Engel l aws.
