Ring-substituted polyaniline derivatives: poly(o-toluidine) (POT) and poly(
o-chloroaniline) (POC) have been treated with PdCl2 solutions in 0.1 and 1
M HCL Polymer-palladium systems thus obtained have been studied by vibratio
nal spectroscopic methods (MIR, FIR, Raman) and chemical analysis. Results
have been compared with those obtained for unsubstituted polyaniline (PANI)
-palladium systems prepared under similar experimental conditions as well a
s for POT, POC, PANI treated with 0.1 and I M HCl. It has been found that i
n all the cases polymers are protonated. Substitution of one hydrogen atom
in PANI ring with -Cl and -CH3 influences the basic and redox properties of
the parent polymer The lowest reactivity towards palladium ions has been o
bserved in the case of POC. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reser
