Magnetic susceptibility investigations of xNiO . (1 - x)[Bi2O3 . GeO2] glas
ses with 0 < x less than or equal to 40 mol% are reported. The effective ma
gnetic moment values suggest that the Ni2+ ions are predominantly tetrahedr
al coordinated in low NiO content glasses, whereas in higher NiO content gl
asses the Ni2+ ions are located in. octahedral sites. Also, paramagnetic Cu
rie temperatures indicate that the Ni2+ ions participate at the superexchan
ge interaction of the antiferromagnetic type for x > 10 mol%.
