Field and laboratory studies of the lichen genus Cladonia in the alpine mea
dows of Andorra (NE of Spain, Iberian Peninsula), yielded 24 taxa: 19 speci
es, 3 subspecies and 2 unidentified taxa. Cladonia galindezii, earlier beli
eved to be endemic to the Antarctic, is reported for the first time from th
e Northern Hemisphere. C. asahinae, C. macroceras, and chemotypes IV of C.
subcariosa and II of C. pyxidata are new reports for Europe. The lichen sub
stances, reported for each taxon, and the altitudinal distribution are disc
ussed.
