Abstract
The first Mesozoic japygid (Hexapoda: Diplura), Ferrojapyx vivax gen. et sp . nov., is described from the Lower Cretaceous (Aptian) Crato Formation of north-east Brazil. There are only two previously described occurrences of j apygids in the fossil record: in Miocene or Pliocene onyx marble from Arizo na and from the Carboniferous (Westphalian D) Francis Creek Shale of Mazon Creek, Illinois.
