The mechanism of the inhibiting action of the aromatic amine 1,3-di-(4-phen
ylaminophenoxy)-2-propanol and the sterically hindered phenol 2,6-di-tert-b
utyl-4-methylphenol (ionol) in oxidizing methyl linoleate was studied. The
key reactions in the mechanism of inhibition by the antioxidants were ident
ified, and the corresponding kinetic parameters were estimated. The mechani
sms of the action of the antioxidants were compared, and the reasons for th
e main differences in their efficiency were established.
